About The Wark Digest
Wark Digest is a weekly newsletter from the minds behind Final Fantasy Union. The main aim is to deliver on two basic ideals:
To provide an insightful look at any new developments relating to the Final Fantasy franchise
To deliver comprehensive and thoughtful reflections on the history of Final Fantasy
This includes examining current headlines and other news from Square Enix, or observing relevant anniversaries for Final Fantasy games and other events in the series.
About the Kupo Chronicle
Kupo Chronicle is a biweekly premium newsletter for paid subscribers, supplementing the more timely, point-form approach of the Wark Digest with long-form, comprehensive deep-dives into the history of Final Fantasy.
The Kupo Chronicle takes the time to dig into forgotten pieces of Final Fantasy history—oddities and ephemera fallen by the wayside, like obscure Japanese guides and interviews or rumours of “Rapping Squall”, and other unique moments that might’ve been lost to the sands of time otherwise.
The Kupo Chronicle also includes more original essays, examinations, and ruminations on various aspects of the franchise’s past, present, and future.
Our premium subscription helps procure more research materials and support the creation of both newsletters, allowing us to continue following our passion for this franchise.
About the Author
Chris de Hoog, a writer and podcaster from Ontario, discovered RPGs with the original Final Fantasy on NES and has been overthinking them ever since. He has been writing for Final Fantasy Union since 2016, including some of the original “Complete Evolutions of” videos. He also began working in games journalism in 2020 for CGMagazine, Canada’s own independent gaming magazine, where he serves as RPG Editor.
Chris started the Wark Digest in June 2021 as an extension of FFU’s coverage, which then expanded to include the Kupo Chronicle in February 2024. He also served as editor for both of FFU’s Kickstarter-backed “Unofficial Guide to Final Fantasy” books, including “Guardians of the Crystal,” coming in 2025.
Chris can be found on BlueSky, or occasionally streaming on Twitch on his charity team’s page, Guild Two-Taps.
