The Latest Book from Final Fantasy Union is launching soon on Kickstarter. Join us for this explore an excusive first look at what the book will contain.
We have been blown away by how much the community rallied around our first book, The Legacy of the Crystal. Now, over three years since that campaign ended we have sold over 3,000 copies, thanks to a combination of the initial Kickstarter campaign and a modest re-print we did during the middle of 2023. (note: we are currently out of stock as we prepare for the next step in our journey, but you can purchase a PDF version here.)
As part of the campaign we asked backers what they would want to see us explore next via the written word and the majority of them said summons.
Introducing Guardians of the Crystal
This new book will document every summonable being that has featured within the mainline Final Fantasy games. It will therefore feature:
88 different summons, from Adrammelech through to Zona Seeker.
Context as to any mythological inspirations and allusions, lore and general evolution of summons as they have been featured throughout the franchise in both mainline and spin-off games.
Approximately 50,000-60,000 words
A foreword from Ben Starr (VA for Clive Rosfield in Final Fantasy XVI) talking about his own personal journey with Summons.
Key Art from fourteen fantastic artists including the likes of Tholia Bentz, Guy-Pascal Vallez, Tylor Hepner and Colin Tan who have been tasked with creating their own interpretations of iconic summons.
Three unique covers designed by Colin Tan, perfect for those who have a particular favourite amongst the summonable roster.
If this all sounds remotely interesting, we’d please ask you to follow the project on Kickstarter!
So, What’s Next?
We want to try and gain as many Kickstarter followers as possible prior to launch. Not only will this help to prove that this idea is just as viable as our first book, but it will increase the chances of the project succeeding upon launch, making it a concrete and tangible thing and a perfect addition to everyone’s growing Final Fantasy collections.
Outside of following the project, any additional support you could offer would be much appreciated. That could be through telling friends you know who love Final Fantasy or sharing it amongst communities you're part of - every little helps. Also, if you have social media, make sure to Re-Post and share our announcement!
Thank you all so much for your support! We'll be sure to update you all once the campaign goes live (should you not want to follow the project just yet!).
Here's to making something new and exciting a reality!
~Darryl
